Burnley (A) – Player Ratings

Everton suffered a 2-1 defeat on the road to Burnley yesterday. We look through each players performance below.

(Ratings are made on a scale of 1-10, 1 being awful, 5 being average and 10 being outstanding. Any substitution brought on after 75 minutes will receive no rating [NR]).

Manager rating – 1 – Allardyce gets a solitary point for starting the game with a 4-4-2 formation. However, everything that followed after half time earns him nothing more. From a horrendous change in tactics, catastrophically bad substitutions through to laughing at our fans frustrations at the end of the match and in a press conference afterwards. Doesn’t deserve to manage our club and certainly isn’t good enough.

Jordan Pickford – 4 – Pickford must be the only keeper that concedes goals every week that the fans still feel sorry for and acknowledge he did everything he could. Yesterday was no different. The first goal might have been the only occasion you could look for improvement, in terms of advancing to the ball, but our defence should have stop a ball down the middle in the first instance.

Seamus Coleman – 4 – It was a quiet performance from Seamus, but did get forward well in the first half. How he didn’t have the captains armband is a joke. Also flicked on Walcott’s cross for our goal.

Ashley Williams – 1 – We’ve said it at numerous points this season that Ashley Williams doesn’t deserve to wear the captains armband. Yesterday Williams provided such an insulting performance to the fans, he had no interest whatsoever in doing his job. He led nobody, barely protested his red card as any good captain would do and he sets no example to anyone else on the pitch. Barely deserves to wear the shirt, let alone the armband.

Michael Keane – 3 – We seen two different performances from Keane yesterday. The first half he looked assured and won every header in his direction. He was on the front foot. But, the second half came and he found himself sitting deeper under more pressure and the unconfident body language came. At fault for the first goal and should have cut out the pass through into our box.

Cuca Martina – 2 – It was back to an awful performance for Martina against Burnley. We mentioned in our 3 Thoughts article that Martina had found a balance of late with his performances, but Aaron Lennon cut that to shreds on Saturday afternoon. Cuca was run riots and often got caught between committing and not committing to tackles.

Idrissa Gueye – 4 – Again a comfortable first half performance and always gives everything to the effort. Was massively overrun in the second half due to Allardyce’s change in formation and tactics.

Tom Davies – 4 – Had a decent first half and link everything up well for Tosun, DCL and Walcott. Was brought off too early but wasn’t the worst of the substitutions from Allardyce.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 4 – Didn’t do a great deal wrong and had Burnley second guessing his outstanding range of passing in the first 45 minutes. Wrongly substituted in the second half.

Theo Walcott – 5 – The driving force of the team and provides utter class and ability every time he gets on the ball. The second half tactics killed any potential opportunities he might of had of hurting Burnley further.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 3 – Not sure what he gave to the side. Got a stupid yellow card in the first half and was pretty much nonexistent. Should have been subbed instead of Tosun in the second half.

Cenk Tosun – 6 – He looked like a footballer that had a point to prove and was ready to make a fool of his manager. Could have had a couple of goals in the first half but took his opportunity well for his goal.

Wayne Rooney – 4 – A pretty average performance and didn’t really make an impact. Needs to get on the ball more to use his ability to find a pass and create opportunities.

Oumar Niasse – 3 – Didn’t make any difference and barely touch the ball in the 22 minutes he was on the pitch. He should have replaced DCL and the manager put the team back to a 4-4-2 with Niasse and Tosun up front and Sigurdsson and Walcott on the wings.

Yannick Bolasie – NR – Had little impact but did provide a bit more natural width for all of 6 minutes. Still needs to lose a few pounds.
