Everton travelled across the park to Anfield with 8,000 travelling fans in support. This is how we thought our players got on.
(Ratings are on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being terrible, 5 being neither good nor bad and 10 being outstanding. Any player brought on as a sub after 75 minutes doesn’t receive a rating.)
Jordan Pickford – 7 – Had another solid game, did brilliantly to get Holgate to concentrate again after the Firmino incident. Shouldn’t have come for the ball for their winner, but don’t think he’d have saved it even if he didn’t come off his line.
Jonjoe Kenny – 6 – Could be a 7. Was exceptionally calm and composed on the ball, defended solidly all game and his passing to Bolasie and central field was brilliant.
Phil Jagielka – 9 – Easily our MOTM and by a long way one of his best performance for the club. The assist for Sigurdsson’s goal was something else, sprinted the length of the pitch and stay calm to pull it back. Defended well.
Mason Holgate – 7 – Theres no doubt he’s going to be one of the best we’ve had when he’s of age. Shows ability in every game, has the pace to keep up with the modern day players. Lost his head and composure after the Firmino situation and understandably, when he comes of age he might react a little differently after making his point to the ref.
Cuca Martina – 6 – A similarly good performance as Kenny provided. Defended well when needed and was a lot more accurate with his passing.
James McCarthy – 6 – Did a lot that many won’t have noticed. Had energy and took pressure off Schneiderlin, passed well and was onto everything in and around himself.
Morgan Schniederlin – 5 – By no means his worst performance, wasn’t good wasn’t bad. Needs to be quicker to close the ball down and take the lead from McCarthy.
Yannick Bolasie – 6 – Got forward a lot better than he did against United. Shown exactly why he can be a big threat for us as they put 3 men on him when possible. Needs to work on getting the ball into the box earlier rather than waiting for the defender to catch up too him.
Gylfi Sigurdsson – 8 – A very close runner-up for the MOTM award. Has found his feet and is starting to show why he was worth the price we paid. Had a great turn of foot to get into the position he did for his goal and a great finish between 3 of their defenders.
Wayne Rooney – 6 – Frustrating he got the early booking but was what someone needed to do to rattle them slightly. If he’d have been on the pitch when we equalised I could have seen us getting another.
Dominic Calvert- Lewin – 6 – Held the ball up well on occasions and turned well on the ball. Needs to time his jumps for the ball better and be stronger in the box.
Ademola Lookman – 7 – The impact he made when he came on was exactly what we were crying out for to get back into the game. Cut them open often and has Robertson chasing him. Shown how dangerous he is and mixed up crossing the ball and cutting in front of the box well.
Tom Davies – NR – Difficult to talk about Tom having come on in the 86′. Played a nice ball or two to the wing in that time to set Bolasie up though.
Oumar Niasse – NR – Again tough to give an opinion with little time on the pitch. Had one clear cut opportunity with a ball across the 6 yard box and wasn’t awarded the pen for being wiped out.
