Everton vs Apollon Limassol – Match Review

Game week 2 of the Europa League group stages see’s Everton host Cypriot side Apollon Limassol.

The Blues have been through a torid start to the season and the Europa league group stages has so far been part of the misery. After suffering a 3-0 defeat away to Atalanta in game week 1, Everton will be keen to put that lacklustre defeat behind them this evening.

Oumar Niasse has somewhat rescued the Toffees in the last 2 games, However, the Senegalese striker is not selected for tonights game. Everton will have to rely on Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramierez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score the goals in tonights match, which doesn’t sound all that bad. But, only 1 of the 3 names mentioned above is in any kind of form.

Ronald Koeman will be hoping his side can go to battle tonight, knowing the away side will probably be satisfied with a draw away from home.

Apollon Limassol currently sit 8th in the Cypriot Premier division after playing 3 games so far this season. Their goals are fairly shared out between their attackers and midfielders to this point, but the ones to watch are likely to be Emilio Zeleya, Ioannis Pittas and Alexandre Da Silva.

Emilio Zeleya is an experienced attacker who guides the frontline well. Although he is likely to be overlooked for a start on Thursday night for the younger and in form Ioannis Pittas, the 30-year-old is coming into this one on the back of a brace in his last league game. Alexandre Da Silva is a Brazilian play maker who moves the ball well and creates some good attacking moves. The Brazilian has had at least 1 assist in all but 1 of the Cypriots last 3 league games.
