Both Everton and Manchester United have had interest in Burnley centre back Michael Keane for a couple of season, with the latter looking to reunite with their former youth product.
Jose Mourinho was said to have Keane numbered as a transfer target during the summer, However, it now looks as though Mourinho has opted for 22-year-old Swedish international Victor Lindelof, with the formalities of the deal expected to be completed early this week.
This could leave Everton in pole position to sign Keane, 24, during the current summer window. The Toffees will be looking to complete transfers quicker than most this summer, with their first qualifying round of the Europa league coming a full month before their Premier league campaign begins.
Ronald Koeman has spoke highly of the English International before, expressing Keane’s resilient defending.
It’s not easy to score, it’s not easy to create against them. I think he’s one of the young centre-backs with a great future in front of him.
Everton could now be running in a two horse race for Keane, with only Arsenal said to be the only other realistic option. The Gunners however, tend to look further afield for defensive options.
Burnley have made it clear that they will listen to offers for their centre-back in and around the region of £10mil, a price tag now well within reach for Moshiri-backed Everton.
