Reports broke throughout the Dutch media on Monday morning that Davy Klaassen is close to completing a transfer away from Ajax.
A large Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf broke the news, suggesting that Klaassen has already begun to speak to Everton manager Ronald Koeman ahead of a move to Goodison Park.
Ajax are reported to have set Everton an asking price of €30mil(£27mil) for their club captain, who is under contract with the Dutch giants until 2019. The Oranje playmaker was quoted as saying he would be looking for a new challenge after Ajax’ defeat in the Europa League final.
Davy Klaassen has been capped 14 times for his country and has appeared 126 times for Ajax scoring 44 goals in those appearances for the latter.
Everton may also have some support from within Ajax in the shape of Johnny Heitinga. The former Everton man speaks very highly of his time in a Blue shirt and could well push Klaassen in Everton’s direction if remaining at Ajax isn’t an option.
